Years ago? She STILL gets it. I don't get it. It is as if we want to get rid of the strong independant woman with a tomboyish personality in favor of a jail bait fan girl who doesn't really know Sonic personally outside of his job as resident hero.
Same for Amy. I legit dislike Amy, because of her lack of personality and purpose besides Sonic's girlfriend and being mean to a lot of people for no reason though, so I suppose I'm a bit hypocritical.
I don't "dislike" her per-say but I don't think she's good for Sonic, and I don't think Sonic would be good for her. And it's all because of the way she views him.
1: The age difference at their current cannon ages is to significant to ignore. 12 Yearolds shouldn't date 15 Yearolds.
2: Her view of Sonic is rarely, if ever, as a person. Most of the time she sees him as a hero and little else, a Knight in Shining Armor to dash to her rescue. And that is not a good way to view a potential boyfriend for a long term relationship.
3: She's content with being Sonic's damsel in distress. While she rarely goes down without a fight she's never been able to fight effectively in the games and never tries to escape on her own when captured.
and 4:...does she even know Sonic? I mean, like she does Cream, or Big, or any of her friends? From what I can tell she only knows Sonic as well as any random fan of his on the streets. She only knows Sonic the Hero, nor Sonic the Mobian.
This is why SonAlly works so much better because all of these point are the opposite with Sally.
She's Sonic's age. She sees him as a person first and a hero second. She rarely the damsel in distress and often orchestrate her own escape IF she is captured. and is a competent fighter. And she's known and been friends with Sonic since they were 5 years old or younger. She sees him as a goof with a big ego and she loves him for it.
I'm in many fandoms, and I can honestly say that it is hardest being in the STH one. You're either surrounded by fanbrats or furry lovers.
It also doesn't help that SEGA decided to let America have it's own version of STH (And sorta France when you think of Underground) so when you have so many versions of something it's total chaos because each and every fan wants to prattle on about how only one is canon and blah, blah, blah.
But I honestly feel sorry for Sally the most. Can't catch a break that one lol...
I really wish Amy Rose hadn't been the dominant female in the Sonic series, mostly because her only purpose is to make kissy faces at Sonic. Princess Sally had an actual backstory and other purposes besides being a love interest.
I agree with you. When I actually first saw Amy Rose, not Sonic CD wise since I didn't own a SEGA CD, I actually despised her because she was just too clingy. It saddens me that SEGA won't do anything else with her than just to have her be obsessed with Sonic, and I know she has so much potential. But Japan has this thing for making fangirls >w>'... That's why I liked Sally, sure she was the love interest, but she had a life outside Sonic. It's not that I can't enjoy a character who's life revolves around another's, but it has to be done right or it's honestly annoying. The Fleetway Comics (which I never really read, but from what I've seen) showed Amy in kind of that aspect with the way SATAM did Sally (Grant it I think they should be true to Amy's girlyness, but whatever )
I have many reasons to dislike Amy. 1. She's too young for a relationship.Puberty is a horrible thing. 2. Clingy. 3. No backstory. 4. She has no friends anymore. She's mean to anyone except for Sonic and maybe Tails. 5. She ditched Cream as a friend. 6. Extreme selfishness 7. She hit Knuckles multiple times for no reason. 8. Wanna-be-innocent when she isn't 9. No purpose beside being a love interest 10. Jailbait
Yeah. I really didn't enjoy Sonic X because I felt like it ruined a lot of the characters. Amy was especially painful. (I say Sonic X because I felt like it was what really ruined her character if you don't count Archie comics.) I find it easier just to write AUs, and kind of add backstories to characters who need it, or to change up a character who I felt wasn't developed enough or made to serve an unnecessary purpose.
Yes. Sometimes I wish Amy could just be removed from the series, because she is a horrible role model for children. I could go on about comparing Amy to Sally and whine about how Sally was replaced despite promiting love for your friends, (good) parents, nature, etc.
Maybe if SEGA would take the time to just fix their characters instead of wasting it trying to adding more or throwing in extra storyline I think they'd help themselves personally. I do agree that I prefer Sally to Amy. Sally overall had more development.

it's really unfortunate that this happens; it seems to be pretty widespread throughout the fandom in general - to the point where I'm embarrassed to say "I'm a fan of x" because there are -those- kinds of people
it seems most people are either loaded with blind hate or blind appreciation
damn son. i just wanna like a cartoon character without you wanting to take a hacksaw to her / build a damn shrine to her feet
I used to be 'friends' with a Sally fan that constantly worshipped her like some sort of goddess. I knew he wasn't completely sober in the head when he went "Beautiful, sexy Sally" most of the time on my Princess Sally doodles.
